Micky van de Ven has signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, the club confirmed on Monday. The 25-year-old central defender is regarded as one of the best in Europe at his position.
"Today is a special day, obviously, because I signed a new contract. The trust from the club I get, the trust from the gaffer I get, and the trust I have in the club is something really special," Van de Ven said. "It gives a special feeling for knowing I can stay here for many more years."
Van de Ven joined Tottenham from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023 and has made 96 appearances in all competitions. He won the UEFA Europa League with the club and captained the side through the final six matches of last season as Spurs secured their Premier League status.
The Dutchman cited new head coach Roberto De Zerbi as a key factor in his decision to extend. "With the new gaffer coming in and his way of football and his way of playing, I'm really enjoying it. I have a good relationship with the gaffer," he said.
Van de Ven also pointed to the club's transfer activity as a sign of ambition. "With the new signings coming in who are all top guys and top players, you see the direction the club wants to go in. I'm really excited about what that's going to be and I just want to be a part of it."
On his personal development since arriving in north London, Van de Ven acknowledged a significant shift. "I think I was more like a young boy when I came in, not really experienced in life. That's totally different now. I'm more like a man, I would say" — and confirmed he has taken on a leadership role within the squad.
Tottenham have been active in the transfer market this summer, also signing Scottish captain Andy Robertson, Argentine defender Marco Senesi, and Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes, while extending the contract of Czech goalkeeper Antonín Kinský.
