Erling Haaland surpassed Sergio Agüero as Manchester City's all-time leading scorer in the Champions League on Wednesday, heading home his 37th goal in the competition during City's match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Norwegian striker reached the milestone in the 53rd minute, moving clear of Agüero's tally of 36 goals in the tournament proper. Agüero had also scored a hat-trick in a 2016 qualifier against Steaua Bucharest, but those goals are not counted in the official Champions League figures.
Haaland has now scored 37 Champions League goals for City in just 41 appearances since joining the club in the summer of 2022. Across his entire European career — including spells at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund — he has netted 60 goals in 60 Champions League appearances.
The 26-year-old is the third-highest scorer in Manchester City's 132-year history, with 171 goals in 207 games for the club. Only six players have scored more goals across the entire lifespan of the European Cup, and no player in the top 50 comes close to his one-goal-per-game ratio.
Haaland won the Champions League Golden Boot in his debut season at City, scoring 12 times as the club lifted the trophy with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul. During that run he became only the third player — after Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano — to score five goals in a single Champions League match, against RB Leipzig in the Round of 16.
He scored six goals in nine games as City reached the quarter-finals the following season, before a penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid. He added eight goals in each of the last two campaigns.
Haaland has carried that form into the 2026/27 season, scoring nine goals in nine appearances across all competitions, including three in his first two Champions League games.
City's top scorers in the Champions League: Erling Haaland 37 in 41; Sergio Agüero 36 in 64; Raheem Sterling 24 in 67; Phil Foden 20 in 69; Gabriel Jesus 20 in 38; Riyad Mahrez 16 in 46; Kevin De Bruyne 16 in 73; Bernardo Silva 15 in 86; Ilkay Gündogan 12 in 77.
