Szoboszlai leads Liverpool FPL picks for Gameweek 1

Dominik Szoboszlai is the standout Liverpool pick for Fantasy Premier League managers heading into Gameweek 1 of the 2026-27 season, according to analysis from Fantasy Football Scout.

The Hungary international is the fourth-most popular player in the game overall and appears in more than 41 per cent of FPL squads. Last season Szoboszlai recorded 160 FPL points, second only to Virgil van Dijk among Liverpool players, and created 78 chances — the second-most across the entire Premier League.

Szoboszlai also led Liverpool for crosses with 205 and created 14 big chances, more than any other player at the club. He contributed 20 defensive contribution points, 21 bonus points and nine clean-sheet points.

Florian Wirtz (£7.5m) is identified as another attractive option after scoring two goals in three pre-season appearances. The German midfielder operated as a second striker alongside Alexander Isak (£9.0m) under new head coach Andoni Iraola, a role that could increase his goal and assist output.

Isak, who started only eight league matches last season due to injury, was the highest FPL points-scoring forward in 2024-25 before joining Liverpool. He registered 211 points from 23 goals, six assists and 36 bonus points that campaign.

From the defensive options, Jeremy Jacquet (£5.0m) is highlighted as the best value pick after a strong pre-season showing against Como 1907. Milos Kerkez (£5.5m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£5.5m) offer additional attacking threat from the flanks, with both averaging at least one chance created per 90 minutes in the previous Premier League season.

Van Dijk (£6.5m) also remains a recommended selection given his clean-sheet potential and set-piece threat.

Elsewhere in the game, Manchester City's Erling Haaland (£15.5m) is the highest-owned player overall heading into Gameweek 1. The forward scored 27 goals last season.

The Gameweek 1 deadline is 6.30pm BST on Friday 21 August. FPL managers can make unlimited changes to their squads before that cut-off via the Premier League app or website.
