Arsenal Women head coach Renée Slegers has outlined her ambitions for the 2026/27 season, stating the club's goal is to compete for first place in the WSL after finishing second last campaign.

Slegers, entering her third season in charge, said the squad returned from its pre-season camp in La Manga in strong physical condition and with high engagement levels. Arsenal brought in seven new players during the summer transfer window.

"I think we've been very precise with who we wanted to bring in, the person behind the player, finding the right timing, the right moment from so many perspectives," Slegers said. "I'm really happy with the seven new players that have come into us now."

On Arsenal's ambitions, Slegers was direct. "We're second in the WSL. We're semi-finalists in the Champions League. Exited the Cups too early again, like the year before. The next step is to be even closer and to be up there to compete for the first place."

Slegers acknowledged the challenge of integrating new arrivals while absorbing the departures of several long-serving players. She said new leadership dynamics were already emerging within the squad.

Arsenal face their three closest WSL rivals in quick succession at the start of the season. Slegers said she welcomed the difficult opening schedule. "What's better than facing big challenges? So I look forward to it."

The club will again play all home league games at Emirates Stadium, where Slegers noted their record has been a clear strength. The expanded WSL now includes two additional clubs for the 2026/27 season.
