Cole Palmer has revealed that Chelsea team-mate Morgan Rogers was the original creator of their shared goal celebration, crediting his friend with inspiring the now-iconic pose.
Palmer made the disclosure in an interview recorded during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Hong Kong, saying Rogers performed the celebration first before Palmer adopted it and brought it to widespread attention.
“He did it first. He played midweek, then we played Luton on the Saturday and I told him I was going to do it,” Palmer said. “He did it first, but I made it famous! That’s the truth. He says that as well!”
Palmer also described the moment he learned Rogers would be joining him at Stamford Bridge. Rogers contacted him while on England duty with a message asking where he was, followed by a missed call and an ultimatum.
“I got a missed call and he messaged me straight away that I had five minutes to ring him back,” Palmer said. “He told me he was coming, but I didn’t believe him at first. He told me and I was gassed.”
