Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup third-round at Anfield on Tuesday night, with an 8pm BST kick-off.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 30 meetings with Spurs at Anfield across all competitions. Overall, Tottenham have beaten Liverpool on home soil only eight times in 93 previous matches at the ground.

Liverpool have won the League Cup more times than any other club, lifting the trophy on 10 occasions. Tuesday's match will mark the first time the Reds have played in the competition on September 15.

Among the current Liverpool squad, Cody Gakpo leads the scoring charts in the League Cup with nine goals. Alexander Isak, meanwhile, has scored seven times in six previous appearances against Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is unbeaten in his last four matches against Spurs as a coach. Should he reach the final at his first attempt, Iraola would follow in the footsteps of predecessors Joe Fagan, Rafael Benitez, Jürgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

The Reds have not been eliminated in their first League Cup tie since 2018, when Chelsea beat them 2-1 at Anfield. Liverpool's last 0-0 run of back-to-back games came in February 2019, against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Manchester United in the league.

Tottenham arrive at Anfield yet to score a goal away from home this season, having lost 3-0 at Brentford and drawn 0-0 at Nottingham Forest. Spurs have kept only three clean sheets in their last 33 visits to Anfield in league and cup, with none in any of the last 16.

The two clubs have met twice previously on September 15, both in the league. Tottenham won 2-1 at White Hart Lane in 1952, while Liverpool won 2-1 at Wembley in 2018.

The last Liverpool player to score a hat-trick at Anfield in the League Cup was Michael Owen, against Grimsby Town in November 1997.
