Liverpool left-back Milos Kerkez has confirmed that he and Dominik Szoboszlai were beaten in a padel match against club legend Steven Gerrard, admitting the former Reds captain proved the stronger player on the day.
Kerkez, who describes himself as a beginner at the sport, recruited Szoboszlai as his partner after arranging the game with Gerrard. "I wanted to come, so obviously I needed a teammate. I called Dom and Dom came with me," the defender told Liverpoolfc.com.
"I don't play often, so we got beat because Stevie plays good. It was fun. You go to play for fun. I'm learning to play it, I'm having fun playing it. It's a nice sport, quite nice, and it was a good day. A good day off."
Szoboszlai had earlier drawn attention to the encounter by sharing a photo on social media of the two Liverpool players alongside Gerrard on the court.
Kerkez indicated a rematch is already in the works. "I was texting with Steven and I told him that I will get better in a month or two and then we will have a serious match also then for who's going to win. But until now I'm going to practise," he said.
