Everton beaten 3-1 by Stuttgart in pre-season friendly

Everton lost 3-1 to Stuttgart at MHP Arena on Wednesday, with Thierno Barry scoring a second-half penalty in the Blues' fifth pre-season friendly of the summer.

Stuttgart opened the scoring on 16 minutes when Nikolas Nartey found space in the right side of the area and smashed a finish past Mark Travers. Everton had created plenty of chances before the opener, with Beto going close twice and Charly Alcaraz, Hayden Hackney and Tyler Dibling all threatening.

The hosts doubled their lead on 65 minutes when substitute Ramon Hendriks was left unmarked from a corner and headed home from close range, moments after David Moyes had introduced four substitutes.

Everton pulled one back shortly afterwards. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall threaded a pass into Barry, who was brought down by goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow as he rounded him. The French striker stepped up and slotted the penalty into the left-hand corner, sending Bredlow the wrong way.

Stuttgart sealed the win two minutes into added time through Badredine Bouanani's first-time finish from the edge of the area, making it 3-1. Iliman Ndiaye had two late efforts saved after a corner fell to him in the goalmouth scramble.

The result came a week after Everton produced an impressive 2-1 win at Hamburg. The Blues next face Newcastle United on Wednesday at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, with kick-off at 5.15pm BST.
