Arsenal secured a sixth consecutive victory to start the season, defeating Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to cap a demanding week that also included wins over Chelsea and Napoli.

Bruno Guimaraes, entering as a substitute, struck the decisive goal in the second half, 121 seconds after goalkeeper David Raya had denied Enzo Le Fee from the penalty spot with a low save.

"It's a huge win, a huge week as well," manager Mikel Arteta said after the match. "Winning against Chelsea, winning in Napoli and now here - a really tough place to come, what a beautiful atmosphere and a really well-organised, really well-gelled team, that makes life really difficult for you."

Arteta singled out Raya's penalty save and Guimaraes's contribution as the turning points. "David makes an unbelievable save afterwards, and then the magic moments that Bruno did as a finisher - it doesn't get much better than that - an unbelievable goal, and unbelievable assist to put Bukayo through, and we earn the right to win the points."

The manager acknowledged the emotional demands of the contest, noting momentum shifted repeatedly throughout the game. "It's a game that shifts momentum a lot - the moment you make a little mistake, a little foul or a throw-in, the momentum shifts," Arteta said.

The result improves on Arsenal's 2-2 draw at Sunderland last season and keeps their record perfect through six Premier League matches. Arteta also credited away support from Arsenal fans, who he said connected with the players after the final whistle.
