Manchester City maintained a perfect start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, despite playing the majority of the match with ten men after Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute.
Erling Haaland's clinical strike proved the difference, with City's defensive discipline holding firm throughout the 199th Manchester derby under Michael Carrick's watch.
Summer signing Elliot Anderson was named Player of the Match for a tireless midfield display, though the Englishman was quick to credit the collective effort. "We all shone to a man and we were brilliant," Anderson said in a post-match interview.
"Losing Phil at the start wasn't good for us but we said at half time it would make us feel better to win. We took the three points. It gives you more motivation to go and get the points. It was really tough for us. We had to run more and fight more."
Anderson also singled out the midfield partnership with Enzo Fernández as key to weathering the pressure. "Me and Enzo love to fight, tackle and get on the ball and play. We gave it our all today and everyone was brilliant."
For Anderson, Saturday marked a personal milestone as his first experience of the fixture. "It was my first Manchester derby and to start it like that is brilliant," he said. "It's a new era here and starting here with a win in this game is amazing."
City's win under manager Enzo Maresca keeps the club at 100% in the opening weeks of the new Premier League season.
