Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni has identified the club's upcoming pre-season tour of the United States as a key opportunity to prove himself to new head coach Andoni Iraola. The Reds are set to depart for the USA on Monday.

Iraola's first match in charge is scheduled against Sunderland in Nashville on Saturday. Further friendlies against Wrexham and Leeds United will follow before the squad returns to Merseyside.

"There are still a few players away [due to the World Cup] so obviously there's an opportunity to play [in the USA] and just show what I can do in that sense," Nyoni told Liverpoolfc.com. "But I'll just go out there and just enjoy it and just try to do my best."

The 19-year-old England U19 international also commented on his early impression of Iraola. "He's very friendly, he's very welcoming to everyone and I think he communicates quite well," Nyoni said. "Managers will always have their different styles, it's just about us adapting to it. But it is exciting."

Nyoni made 14 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool last season in what he described as a developmental year at senior level. He is now targeting a greater contribution in the 2026-27 campaign.

"I know sometimes on the outside it looks like it wasn't as great and obviously as a football player you want to play more, but I think last season for me was a very good learning year," he said. "This season [the aim] is just keep progressing and just keep pushing, but obviously it all starts now with pre-season."

Liverpool appointed Iraola as head coach ahead of the new season. The USA tour represents his first matches in charge of the club.
