Chelsea came from behind to thrash Bolton Wanderers 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on 15 October 2005, extending their dominant start to the Premier League season under Jose Mourinho.

Stelios Giannakopoulos put Bolton ahead inside four minutes, and Gary Speed struck the crossbar as the visitors threatened to extend their lead. Chelsea's afternoon looked precarious before Mourinho intervened at half-time.

"It was a question of bringing something different in tactical terms and what the opponent would not be ready for," Mourinho said, explaining his decision to introduce Eidur Gudjohnsen for Asier del Horno at the interval.

Within ten minutes of the restart, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard had turned the match around. Lampard added a third after Ricardo Gardner was sent off for deliberate handball, before Drogba acrobatically converted a fourth and Gudjohnsen wrapped up the win with a composed one-on-one finish.

Mourinho's side had begun the campaign by winning eight consecutive league matches, including a 4-1 victory at Anfield. The Bolton result kept Chelsea top of the table, and they went on to retain the Premier League title that season.
