Enzo Maresca has equalled the best winning start to a managerial reign in Premier League history after Manchester City's 3-0 victory at Liverpool on Sunday made it six wins from six since the Italian took over from Pep Guardiola this summer.
Maresca joins an exclusive group of three previous managers to win their first six Premier League games in charge of a club. Guardiola achieved the feat at City in the 2016/17 season, while Carlo Ancelotti did so at Chelsea at the start of 2009/10 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer matched it after taking charge at Manchester United in December 2018.
The win at Anfield carries additional weight given City had won just three league games at the ground since the turn of the century. Maresca's side have scored 16 goals and conceded five across those six league games, accumulating 18 points to sit three points clear at the top of the table.
A seventh consecutive win — which would be a Premier League first for any manager at a new club — is now within reach when City host Ipswich Town next Saturday.
Guardiola's six-win opening run had stood as the best start by any City manager. In earlier eras, Joe Mercer went unbeaten in his first seven league games in 1965, though three of those were draws, while Les McDowall did not lose until his 11th league match as boss in 1950, a run that also included three draws.
