Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday, extending their perfect start to the Premier League season to six wins from six games.
Erling Haaland, who scored City's opening goal, credited the team's mental resilience after a demanding international break. "It was tough and hard. We showed amazing character from Gigio at the back, all the way to the front. I'm so proud of everyone," the Norwegian striker said.
All three goals — from Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki — came after Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was shown a second yellow card. City's opener arrived just two minutes and 37 seconds after the dismissal.
Haaland acknowledged missing a clear chance before his goal but said he stayed focused. "I missed a big chance right before and it was just about focusing on getting another chance and stay focused. The moment came and I took it."
The result inflicted on Liverpool their joint-biggest Premier League defeat at Anfield and gave City back-to-back league wins at the ground for the first time since January 1953.
Midfielder Elliot Anderson was voted Player of the Match. Haaland singled him out for particular praise: "The first guy I think of is Elliot. Today again he controlled the game for us and he goes into the tackles. He does the things we need to do."
City next turn their attention to upcoming fixtures, with Haaland calling on the squad to recover quickly. "There's plenty of games coming on. It's time to recover and already start focusing on the next one," he added.
