Marc Guéhi has been named by Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca as part of the club's leadership group, alongside Rúben Dias, Erling Haaland and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The England centre-back joined City in January and has become a regular starter in the backline, a role he has maintained since Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola as head coach.

"The first thing is leading by example," Guéhi told UEFA ahead of City's Champions League home fixture against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. "If you're asking your teammates to do something you should be able to do that things. Leadership comes in all different ways, different manors so it's something that can be very diverse."

Guéhi, 26, said authenticity was central to his approach. "People can see right through you, they can tell when someone isn't necessarily being themselves," he said. "Authenticity is the most important thing."

The defender added that leadership was never something he consciously pursued. "I've never thought of myself in that way. I think it's always been other people have noticed and pick up on in me," he said. "I've been nominated as one of the leaders of the group which means I've done something right."

Wednesday's match against PSG will be Guéhi's first taste of Champions League football. PSG are the reigning champions, having won the competition in both 2025 and 2026, defeating Inter Milan and Arsenal respectively.

City head into the game in strong form, having won eight of their first eight matches this season, including a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The club also claimed a win away at FC Porto on matchnight one of the Champions League group stage.

"I didn't think I'd get this far to be honest," Guéhi said of playing in the Champions League. "But I'm very very grateful and I just want my gratitude to grow even more by playing even more games and hopefully achieve something great with this football club."
