Former Tottenham captain Ledley King took part in a community football session for young people in Sydney on Monday, joining members of the club's Australian supporters' group OzSpurs. The event was organised in partnership with social enterprise Creating Chances through its Football United programme.
Football United is a long-running initiative that uses football to promote social cohesion and leadership among young people from culturally diverse communities across Western Sydney. The programme works with schools and community partners to provide inclusive environments where participants develop confidence and life skills through sport.
Representatives from Sydney FC's foundation were also present at the session, which Tottenham are set to face during their Australian tour. OzSpurs president Sean Bielski also attended, with discussions on teamwork and leadership forming part of the day.
"We are a Club that takes immense pride in our own local community, and so it was fantastic to get involved in the session today alongside some of our Sydney-based supporters," King said. "Learning more about the incredible work Football United does to support young people across Sydney, as well as seeing the impact of OzSpurs' long-standing support for the programme, reinforced how important it is to invest in our communities and inspire the next generation."
Bielski added: "Our support for Football United is driven by the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the beautiful game. OzSpurs are proud to be part of such a great initiative. There were some wonderful footballers at the session and they were incredibly fortunate to learn from someone like Ledley King who has played at the very highest level of the game."
OzSpurs have previously fundraised for the Football United programme. Youth participants from the session are set to visit Spurs House, the club's base in central Sydney during the Australian tour. A mural created by Sydney-based artists Eze and Migs will be donated to raise money for Creating Chances.
