Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, keeping the Uzbekistan international at the club until 2031. The 22-year-old defender joined City in January 2025 and has established himself as a regular starter over the past 18 months.

Khusanov formed a centre-back partnership with Marc Guéhi in the second half of the 2025/26 season, playing 16 of City's last 19 Premier League games. He also featured in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals, which City won.

"This is a great day for me and my family – I am really happy to extend my stay at City," Khusanov said. "I have a new challenge now, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff and ensure I am in his team regularly. I am determined to do that."

Director of Football Hugo Viana said the club was pleased with the defender's progress. "His physical and technical abilities are top, he has all the assets needed to be a world-class centre-back," Viana said. "At just 22, his best years are all in front of him."

Khusanov arrived from Lens and became the first Uzbek player to appear in the Premier League. In 47 appearances for City, he has drawn notice for his pace and tackling. He was also a finalist for the club's 2025/26 Etihad Player of the Season award, finishing behind academy graduate Nico O'Reilly.

Off the pitch, Khusanov played a key role as Uzbekistan qualified for their first ever World Cup. City had previously seen first-choice centre-backs Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol sidelined by injury during the same match, which accelerated Khusanov's rise to a first-team regular.
