Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola says he was already familiar with centre-back Jeremy Jacquet before either man joined the club this summer. Jacquet arrived at Anfield after a deal was agreed with Stade Rennais at the start of 2026, while Iraola was appointed head coach in June.
"Jeremy was a player that I knew very well, even before signing for Liverpool," Iraola told Stan Sport. "Still being young, I think he has all the tools that we will need for that position."
Iraola also addressed a recent injury, noting the defender had missed the final months of last season with a shoulder problem. "He is fully healed. He has been already training with the U21s. He's ready to go from the beginning," the coach said.
Jacquet will wear the No.5 shirt at Liverpool. The French centre-back is considered a long-term option for the position under Iraola's management.
