Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has signed a new contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield beyond the one season he joined on a free transfer last summer.

"I'm absolutely delighted, to be honest," Woodman told Liverpoolfc.com. "Off the back of last season, personally it was amazing for me and then to come back in pre-season and there be an offer for me from the club to stay here longer, I was made up."

The 29-year-old made four appearances for Liverpool last season. He debuted in a Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace before making his Premier League debut as a substitute in the 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium in April.

With Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili both sidelined through injury, Woodman started Liverpool's next two top-flight fixtures and was voted Carlsberg Player of the Match for his display against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

"Last season, I know it sounds crazy, but I was ready for that moment when it was at Everton," Woodman said. "I worked all season just because I knew I might just have to play a small role, so that will be my goal again this season. It will just be to train and train and train until that moment comes."

A former England Under-21 international, Woodman will remain part of Liverpool's senior goalkeeping group under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
