Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Marcos Senesi and Djed Spence are all in line to feature in this week's World Cup semi-finals, potentially joining an exclusive group of 15 Spurs players who have reached that stage of the tournament.
Porro will represent Spain against France on Tuesday (8pm UK), while Romero, Senesi and Spence are in the Argentina squad facing England on Wednesday (8pm UK).
The first Tottenham players to appear in a World Cup semi-final were Paul Gascoigne and Gary Lineker, when England lost to West Germany on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Italy in 1990. Gascoigne and Lineker had also been central to Spurs' FA Cup win the following season.
The club's World Cup semi-final presence grew steadily after that. Christian Ziege became the first Spurs player to reach a final when Germany lost 2-0 to Brazil in 2002, while Hugo Lloris became the first to win it, captaining France to a 4-2 victory over Croatia in the 2018 final in Russia.
The 2018 tournament represented a peak in Tottenham's World Cup involvement, with nine players featuring in the last four. Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier and Dele Alli started England's semi-final against Croatia, with Trippier scoring after five minutes before Croatia won 2-1 after extra time. Eric Dier also featured, converting in the penalty shoot-out during an earlier round.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Cristian Romero lifted the trophy as Argentina beat France on penalties in a final that finished 3-3 after extra time, making him the second Spurs player to win the competition after Lloris. Ivan Perisic and Hugo Lloris also featured in the semi-finals that year.
