Jeremy Doku will miss Manchester City's Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Sunday after picking up a calf injury during last week's Community Shield, manager Enzo Maresca confirmed on Friday.
"At the moment, the only one [unavailable] is Jeremy Doku," Maresca told reporters. "Then Matheus [Nunes] is back. Jeremy, but the rest are all okay."
Maresca said Doku began experiencing pain at half-time of the Community Shield and was withdrawn as a planned substitution. "Unfortunately in the last game at half-time he was complaining about a calf pain," the manager said. "Idea was that he would come off, the change was planned and at the moment, [he's out for] 2-3 weeks, no more than that."
There is positive news elsewhere in the squad, with Matheus Nunes available for selection after missing the Community Shield due to an injury sustained during the warm-up.
Sunday's 14:00 UK kick-off at the Etihad Stadium marks Maresca's first Premier League match in charge of City. Bournemouth arrive in strong form after finishing sixth in 2025/26 — their best-ever top-flight campaign — and qualifying for the Europa League.
The Cherries have since appointed Marco Rose as manager, replacing Andoni Iraola, who departed for Liverpool. Maresca said he has studied both Rose's methods and Bournemouth's pre-season work. "Clear identity, aggressive already were with Andoni [Iraola] and still are aggressive. Clear what they do on and off the ball," he said.
