Substitute Rayan Cherki produced two assists to turn the game around as Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on the opening day of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth the lead just before the half-hour mark with a composed finish, and Djordje Petrovic kept the visitors ahead by repelling several attempts from Erling Haaland.

Enzo Maresca brought Cherki off the bench in the 63rd minute and the Frenchman immediately made his presence felt. His inswinging corner found Marc Guéhi, who headed wide from close range before converting an identical delivery in the 84th minute to level the scores.

In stoppage time, Cherki showed balance and creativity to flick the ball into the path of Josko Gvardiol, who finished into the corner. The goal was initially disallowed for offside before a VAR review confirmed it, sealing a 2-1 victory for City.
