Lewis Koumas says he is focused on making an impression at Liverpool during pre-season and will "see where it takes me" regarding his future at the club. The Wales international is part of Andoni Iraola's squad for the summer tour after two loan spells in the Championship in 2025-26.
Koumas spent the first part of last season at Birmingham City before moving to Hull City, where he contributed to the club's promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
"It was a really tough experience to start with but it ended up turning into a really good one," Koumas said of his time at Hull. "I learned a lot from Hull and obviously we got promoted, which is a massive achievement. So, yeah, it was a great season in the end."
The forward described Hull's Wembley play-off victory as "unbelievable", singling out the moment Oli McBurnie scored the decisive goal. Koumas is now back with Liverpool for pre-season training in Chicago under new head coach Iraola.
"I think I'm a player that the gaffer could sort of like, with the way I press and the energy I can give to the team," Koumas said. "I'm always looking to impress so I'll just see where it takes me."
Koumas acknowledged that the arrival of a new head coach gives all players an equal opportunity to stake a claim. His primary target for the season is to play for Liverpool in the Premier League, though he added he remains open to further development if that does not materialise.
