Chelsea welcome Hull City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday sitting fourth in the Premier League table, with the visitors arriving as one of the surprise packages of the season.

Hull are third in the table and have yet to concede a goal in their first three top-flight fixtures since promotion. Only two previously promoted clubs had achieved that feat — Charlton Athletic in 1998 and Huddersfield Town in 2017.

Manager Xabi Alonso is looking to improve Chelsea's recent home record against newly promoted sides. The Blues have not won any of their last four such matches at Stamford Bridge, following back-to-back victories over Southampton and Leicester City in 2025.

Hull suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, losing 1-0 to Sunderland in the Carabao Cup, though manager Sergej Jakirovic made eight changes to his starting line-up for that fixture.

Chelsea produced a dramatic midweek cup performance of their own, coming from 2-0 down to beat Leeds United 6-3 at Stamford Bridge. Substitute Morgan Rogers contributed three assists in the victory.

The last Premier League meeting between the two clubs came in the 2016/17 season, when Antonio Conte's Chelsea won 2-0 both home and away, with Diego Costa on the scoresheet in each game.

Chelsea have hosted Hull 18 times in the league without defeat — their best unbeaten home record against any club, and Hull's worst record at any ground.

The two sides have met 49 times across all competitions but only 10 times in the top flight. Hull have scored just three league goals across 18 visits to Stamford Bridge.

The fixture dates back to 11 September 1905, when Hull became the first side to visit Stamford Bridge for a competitive match. Jimmy Windridge scored three and David Copeland two in a 5-1 Chelsea win.

Chelsea are three goals short of 100 against Hull across all competitions. The three most recent meetings were all FA Cup wins for the Blues — in 2018, 2020 and earlier this year — with an aggregate score of 10-1.

Chelsea have also become the first team in Premier League history to score within the opening five minutes in each of their first three fixtures of a season.
