Florian Wirtz produced a historic chance-creation display as Liverpool beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday, registering nine open-play chances created — a figure unseen in the Premier League for more than 15 years.

According to Opta, it is the most chances created by a single player in a Premier League match since Sadio Mane managed nine for Liverpool against Burnley in January 2021. Away from home, the benchmark stretches back even further — Samir Nasri tallied 10 in August 2011.

Wirtz also contributed an assist for Victor Munoz's goal and was named Carlsberg Player of the Match. Munoz and Alexander Isak both scored in the second half to secure the points for Liverpool.

The Reds had fallen behind to a Keane Lewis-Potter header just before half-time. Brentford also finished the match with nine men, having received red cards at the end of each half.

The win moved Liverpool to 12 points from seven Premier League games, keeping them in fifth place.
