Romeo Lavia has been named the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek after a standout display in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian midfielder won possession in midfield and then supplied the pass for Morgan Rogers to break the deadlock early in the second half. Cole Palmer later doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

The 22-year-old had already been voted Player of the Match by supporters on the Chelsea Official App. He has now added a second individual award after fans voted on the Premier League's official website, beating five other players on a six-player shortlist that included Declan Rice and Bart Verbruggen.

Speaking after the match, Lavia reflected on the work behind his performances. "I feel very comfortable. Like I've always said, it's been in the weeks a lot of work that goes unseen with everyone in the building, at the training ground. So I'm very happy that it's all paying off and hopefully it just continues this way."

Head coach Xabi Alonso also praised the midfielder. "It was a top performance. In the last three weeks, I've seen a Romeo in top form. He is feeling good and feeling confident." He added: "His game, from a midfielder's point of view, was very complete. He has done so many good things and I'm happy for him. He deserves huge recognition."

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League table with 16 points from nine matches. Lavia has one goal and one assist in seven appearances this season.
