Brentford turned a losing position into a comfortable home win, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 after conceding an own goal in the 30th minute. The result says as much about the hosts' ability to respond as it does about the scoreline.

Nikola Milenković's own goal in the 30th minute gave Forest a lead they did not keep. Milenković also picked up a yellow card in the 36th minute, a difficult spell for the Forest defender. Brentford then needed a response, and the second half delivered one.

The shot numbers show where the pressure came from. Forest had 15 shots to Brentford's 7, and 9 of Forest's attempts came from inside the box compared with 3 for Brentford. Forest held 58% of possession. Yet Brentford were more efficient with the chances they did take, and that efficiency decided the match.

On shots on target the teams were level, with one each. Brentford's big-chance profile was also even: each side created one big chance. Forest did miss one of theirs, while Brentford missed none. That gap in finishing is the clearest reason the scoreline favoured the home side.

Igor Thiago was the most direct contributor for Brentford. He scored in the 76th minute and took two shots, one of them on target. Thiago's goal arrived after a stretch in which Brentford had been reliant on the counter and set pieces rather than sustained possession. Jaidon Anthony, who came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute, registered an assist in just 18 minutes on the pitch, a rapid impact off the bench.

Forest's attacking returns were less productive. James McAtee and Morgan Gibbs-White each took three shots and played the full 90 minutes, but neither found the net. McAtee's effort on target and his yellow card in the 83rd minute reflected a side pushing hard without the cutting edge to turn chances into goals. Liam Delap also had three shots before he was replaced in the 65th minute.

The substitutions shaped the second half. Brentford introduced Mikkel Damsgaard and Aaron Hickey in the 62nd minute, and Anthony in the 72nd. Forest made their changes in the 46th and 65th minutes, but the match turned on Brentford's finishing rather than a single tactical switch.

The season context makes the win more meaningful. Brentford have 14 points from nine matches, with three wins, five draws and one defeat, and have scored 16 goals while conceding nine. Their form over the last five games reads W-D-L-D-W. Nottingham Forest sit on six points from nine, with one win, three draws and five defeats, and have conceded 12 goals while scoring six. Their last five results read L-D-L-L-L.

For Brentford the win lifts them further away from the lower end of the table on points, while Forest's run of defeats now stretches further. Forest will have to find more clinical finishing if they are to turn their sustained pressure into points. Brentford, meanwhile, showed they can absorb pressure, respond to a setback and win the game with the chances that mattered most.
