Alexander Isak has admitted Liverpool's performance in a 3-2 defeat at Fenerbahce fell below the standards required. The loss ended the club's perfect record in this season's Champions League, settled by Vedat Muriqi's 79th-minute winner in Turkiye.
Trey Nyoni put the visitors 1-0 up midway through the first half, but Mason Greenwood's deflected free-kick quickly equalised. Isak restored Liverpool's lead shortly after coming on in the second period, only for Fenerbahce to respond again through Archie Brown.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Isak said: "It's never easy here but today I think we could and should get more out of the game. It's a bit sloppy that we had the lead twice and for us to then lose the game is not good enough."
On the goals conceded, he added: "So, it's a shame that we conceded quickly and we should capitalise on that. That's where we were lacking today."
Isak also scored his first Champions League goal for Liverpool in the match, and he has six goals in eight appearances this season. "I was happy with it at the time," he said. "I'm always happy to score goals but today we lost, so it takes a bit from it."
On back-to-back defeats, Isak said Liverpool had put themselves in good positions. "We just need to get back to winning ways and if we win the next game, we are back to a really good position."
