Haaland equals Johnson as Man City's third top scorer

Erling Haaland drew level with Tommy Johnson as Manchester City's third highest scorer in club history on Tuesday, diverting Enzo Fernández's cross in off the post early in the second half against Porto.

The goal was Haaland's 166th in City colours, reached in just 203 appearances. Johnson scored the same tally across 355 appearances between 1920 and 1930.

Only Eric Brook, who holds the club record with 177 goals, and Sergio Agüero with 260 have ever scored more for City than the Norwegian striker.

Haaland has started his fifth season in Manchester in strong form, scoring four times in the club's first five competitive fixtures of the campaign.

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, Haaland set a club record of 52 goals in his debut season as City won a historic Treble. That campaign also brought him his first Premier League Golden Boot, with 36 league goals alone.

He followed that with a second Golden Boot in 2023/24, netting 27 times in the league and 11 more across all competitions. In 2024/25 he scored 34 goals across all games before claiming a third Premier League Golden Boot last term.

Now a senior figure in Enzo Maresca's squad, Haaland has continued to produce at an exceptional rate as he pursues the records set by Brook and Agüero.
