Cristian Romero and Marcos Senesi will play in the World Cup Final after Argentina defeated England 2-1 in their semi-final in Atlanta on Wednesday. It is a second successive final for Romero and a first for Senesi, while Tottenham's Djed Spence exits the tournament at the semi-final stage.
The match was goalless for the opening 55 minutes — a new record for a World Cup game without a shot on target in the first 30 minutes — before Anthony Gordon broke the deadlock for England.
Argentina came close to levelling immediately, but Spence made a recovery run to deny Giuliano Simeone a one-on-one with Jordan Pickford. The equaliser eventually arrived on 85 minutes through an Enzo Fernandez strike from range, and Lautaro Martinez headed in a winner in added time to complete the turnaround.
Romero played the full 90 minutes, earning his 57th cap for Argentina. Spence played 95 minutes before being substituted, his 13th appearance for England. Senesi was an unused substitute.
Argentina will face Spain in the Final on Sunday. Pedro Porro scored in Spain's 2-0 semi-final win over France on Tuesday. England will meet France in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
