Arsenal return to the Principality Stadium to face Manchester City in the Community Shield after an absence of nearly 20 years, prompting a look back at five memorable victories in Cardiff.
The Welsh venue served as a regular home for Arsène Wenger's sides in the early 2000s, hosting three FA Cup final wins and two Community Shield triumphs for the north London club.
Arsenal's most celebrated Cardiff moment came in the May 2002 FA Cup final against Chelsea. Midfielder Ray Parlour picked up the ball and fired into the top corner past Carlo Cudicini, then Freddie Ljungberg curled in a second ten minutes later to seal a 2-0 win. Four days after the final, Arsenal clinched the Premier League title to complete a historic double.
A year later, Robert Pires scored the only goal as Arsenal defeated Southampton 1-0 to retain the FA Cup. The match was also David Seaman's farewell appearance for the club, ending a 13-year spell in north London.
The 2005 FA Cup final against Manchester United finished 0-0 after extra time, during which Jose Antonio Reyes was reduced to ten men following a second yellow card. Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann saved Paul Scholes' penalty in the shootout, and Patrick Vieira converted the decisive kick to win the trophy 5-4 on penalties.
In the August 2004 Community Shield, played immediately after the Invincibles season, Gilberto opened the scoring before Alan Smith equalised for Manchester United. Reyes then put Arsenal back in front, and a Mikael Silvestre own goal from an Ashley Cole pass completed a 3-1 victory.
Also staged in Cardiff, the April 2005 FA Cup semi-final against Blackburn Rovers saw Pires break the deadlock from Kolo Touré's work before Robin van Persie scored twice, including a curling finish past Brad Friedel, to send Arsenal through 3-0 to a final with Manchester United.
