Elliot Anderson has spoken publicly for the first time as a Manchester City player, saying he is delighted to join a squad he previously faced as an opponent.

The midfielder was addressing supporters at the club's City Are Back open training event at the Joie Stadium on Thursday, his second session after linking up with his new team-mates following England's World Cup campaign.

"I was speaking with my family, [I'm] excited to be playing with them and not against them," Anderson said. "I'm just trying to get used to that."

Anderson, who wears the number five shirt, described his early conversations with head coach Enzo Maresca about his role in the team. "[I'll be] part of the midfield, bring composure and help everyone," he said.

City's first competitive fixture is the 2026 Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday 16 August at Cardiff, kick-off 16:00 UK time. The match could mark Anderson's first appearance in a City shirt under competitive conditions.

"[My focus is also] getting fans excited and wanting to come and support me and winning games for this club," Anderson added.
