Jordan Henderson has signed for Chelsea on a two-year contract, the club confirmed on 3 August 2026, ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
"Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down," Henderson said. "I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction."
The 35-year-old midfielder brings eight major trophies to Stamford Bridge, among them the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. He arrives after short spells at Ajax and Brentford following his departure from the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
Henderson began his senior career at hometown club Sunderland, making his professional debut at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in November 2008. He made 79 appearances for Sunderland before joining Liverpool in June 2011.
At Liverpool, Henderson was appointed captain in June 2015 following the departure of Steven Gerrard. Under his captaincy, the club won the Champions League in 2019 and claimed a first Premier League title in 30 years the following season. He also collected the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Community Shield, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.
On the international stage, Henderson has earned 91 caps for England. He was part of the squad that finished as runners-up at Euro 2020 and third at the 2026 World Cup.
