Liverpool lose 4-2 to Leeds in Chicago to end USA tour

Liverpool concluded their pre-season tour of the United States with a 4-2 defeat to Leeds United at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday.

Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz gave the Reds a 2-0 lead at half-time, but Leeds overturned the deficit with four unanswered second-half goals to claim the win in front of an attendance of 49,128.

Chambers opened the scoring inside seven minutes, converting after Milos Kerkez flicked on Dominik Szoboszlai's corner to leave the Liverpool midfielder with a straightforward finish. Wirtz doubled the lead five minutes before the break, cushioning a shot into the net after being picked out by Jeremie Frimpong from Trey Nyoni's clipped pass.

Leeds began their comeback in the 60th minute when Brendan Aaronson rolled the ball under Giorgi Mamardashvili after Milos Kerkez lost possession in his own half. Dominic Calvert-Lewin then levelled with a touch over the line from a long throw, before Sean Longstaff's deflected effort gave Leeds the lead on 73 minutes. Calvert-Lewin added a fourth five minutes from time, guiding a header in off the crossbar.

Liverpool made four changes at half-time, including the introduction of Ryan Gravenberch for his first appearance of pre-season. Mamardashvili had earlier kept the scoreline level in the 13th minute, quickly scooping away a header from Lukas Nmecha that was heading for the bottom corner.
