Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has said Mohammed Kudus is ‘very close’ to returning to full training, offering the club an injury boost ahead of the new season.

The winger has been sidelined with a muscle problem since early January, missing the final 23 matches of last season across all competitions.

“Kudus is very close. I think when we come back to London he will be available to start working with us. It’s a great thing for us. Kudus is another important player,” De Zerbi said at his first press conference in Auckland on Saturday.

The Tottenham head coach also provided updates on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and midfielder Dejan Kulusevski. “Vicario is injured, not a big injury, but he needs to stay one week in London,” he said.

On Kulusevski, De Zerbi urged caution. “We have to see in the next couple of weeks. He’s another important player. After one season, one complete season, without a game, we have to analyse better and better, don’t take risks, first of all for him and then for us.”

Tottenham are currently on their pre-season tour of New Zealand.
