Florian Wirtz says Liverpool have "a good base to build on" despite wanting more points from their unbeaten start to the 2026-27 season, with the club heading to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Reds travel to Vitality Stadium for a 2pm BST kick-off having recorded one win and three draws in the Premier League so far, while also progressing through the Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid and reaching Carabao Cup round four at Tottenham Hotspur's expense.

"It's good that we are still unbeaten," Wirtz told the club's official website. "For sure we want to have more points at this stage. But I think it's still a good base to build on – let's try to keep going like that and get even more points."

The German winger watched the midweek Carabao Cup win over Tottenham from the stands, describing the experience as a useful one. "It was the first time I watched it from higher in the stadium in the stands. It was nice to watch and also a good win for us and for the mind. That definitely helps to build the momentum."

Wirtz acknowledged that Andoni Iraola's side have left points on the table in the early weeks of the campaign, placing pressure on the attacking unit to be more clinical. "We had a few games where we could have scored more goals to win the game. I have also the expectations for myself to decide games. We need me and the attackers to finish the games off."

On the challenge awaiting them on the south coast, Wirtz was candid. "I played I think one time over there and it was already hard. It will be an intense game. We have to be very ready. I think the manager knows them really well so maybe there's a small advantage we have – but we have to be ready and very focused."
