Liverpool's Trey Nyoni, 19, says Andoni Iraola's aggressive pressing and forward-thinking style is well suited to his game after four appearances this season.

Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni says Andoni Iraola's aggressive, forward-thinking approach is a natural fit for his skill set, having made four appearances under the new head coach so far this season.

The 19-year-old's most recent outing came as a substitute in Liverpool's 1-0 win at AFC Bournemouth, where he helped see out the result.

"I'd say because it's just forward-thinking," Nyoni told the official matchday programme. "As soon as you get the ball, it's just play forward. I think even the press as well is aggressive. He's big on the press and I think the best way to attack is starting with the press, which is important. Everything out of possession is important, so yeah, I'd say this suits me."

Nyoni also outlined the positional role Iraola has assigned him. "At the minute I've been playing as a six, so I assume that's the role that he probably sees me playing the most," he said. "I'm still willing to learn to play as the eight or wherever, but right now I'd probably say primarily a six."

The England U20 international joined Liverpool from Leicester City in September 2023 and made his senior debut six months later at the age of 16. He has now featured in 24 competitive matches for the club.

Nyoni acknowledged the challenge of breaking through a congested midfield. "I've developed a lot. I've been with the first team, training, I've had a little exposure here and there, which is valuable," he said. "Obviously now it's just about trying to build on that and see where I can fit in the team. For sure it's about minutes, but minutes when it's right. I know it's not going to be easy because obviously there's a lot of senior players in the midfield that are also really, really good players, but they can also help me a lot. So, I understand that and I'm just trying to make sure that I'm ready whenever I'm needed."
