Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League, three weeks after both clubs last played before the international break. Enzo Maresca's City arrive as pace-setters, setting up a high-stakes encounter between the division's top two.
Andoni Iraola could become only the third permanent Liverpool manager to avoid defeat in each of his first six top-flight matches at the club, after Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan.
The away side has won two of the last three Premier League meetings between the clubs — as many as in the previous 32 combined. The only time there were two consecutive away wins in this fixture was in the 2002-03 season.
Since a goalless draw in October 2018, the 15 subsequent Premier League meetings between the two sides have averaged 3.1 goals per game.
Liverpool have applied high-intensity pressures to 48.9 per cent of opponents' touches in the opposition half this season — the highest rate of any side in the 2026-27 Premier League. City, meanwhile, complete 83 per cent of their passes under high-intensity pressure, the best accuracy in the division.
Erling Haaland leads the Premier League scoring charts with five goals, ahead of Alexander Isak on four. Both also top the expected goals rankings: Haaland 4.4, Isak 3.5.
Liverpool have drawn each of their last four Premier League home games at Anfield. Only in March 2021 (eight), February 2003 (seven) and March 1993 (five) have they gone five or more matches without a home win in the competition.
Dominik Szoboszlai has three goal involvements across his last three Premier League appearances against City. Bradley Barcola's only previous outing against Sunday's opponents came in the Champions League in January 2025, when he scored and assisted in a 4-2 win for Paris Saint-Germain.
City are unbeaten in their previous 10 away league matches, winning six and drawing four. Haaland, after scoring once in his first four Premier League games against Liverpool, netted in both top-flight meetings last season.
All three of Antoine Semenyo's league goals against Liverpool have come at Anfield. Only against Fulham, where he has four, does he have more Premier League strikes against a single opponent.
This will also be the first Premier League fixture between the two clubs since March 2015 with neither Jürgen Klopp nor Pep Guardiola in the dugout.
