Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt has received his first call-up to the senior Germany squad, selected by Jürgen Klopp alongside club teammate Kevin Schade for the upcoming international break.
Janelt, 28, has scored twice in Brentford's opening four Premier League matches this season. He could make his senior debut when Germany face Serbia at home and Greece away in the UEFA Nations League at the start of October.
"He's been excellent since I've been at the club and since I took over as head coach," said Brentford head coach Keith Andrews. "His value to me, the dressing room and the culture of the club is huge, and he absolutely deserves it."
Andrews added that Janelt's contract extension was a key piece of business for the club. "The levels that he's produced at this level — in the toughest league in the world — have been pretty remarkable. For Vitaly, it's a really poignant moment in his career."
Schade, who holds five senior caps, has been selected for Germany's first two fixtures of the break, which include a trip to the Netherlands before hosting Greece.
"It's another amazing story for the club to have two players named in the Germany squad," Andrews said of Schade. "One thing you always get with Kev is a consistency with his work ethic. He's in a really good place at the moment, and hopefully we can keep him there."
