Goretzka available for Villa vs Fenerbahçe Champions League tie

Leon Goretzka has been included in Aston Villa's squad for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League Matchday Two fixture against Fenerbahçe at Villa Park, manager Unai Emery has confirmed.

The German midfielder, who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2020, is yet to play for Villa since joining in the summer after recovering from injury.

However, the squad update brought less positive news on Matteo Ruggeri. The full-back was forced off during Saturday's match against Brentford and faces a significant spell on the sidelines.

"Ruggeri, we don't know exactly how long it's going to be, but it will be some weeks that he's going to be out, more than one month," Emery said. "We need to find solutions because (Ian) Maatsen is not yet available."

George Hemmings remains a doubt for Wednesday but could return for the weekend. "George Hemmings is still being with a small pain – not [available] for tomorrow but maybe on Saturday he can come back," the manager added.

Modou Keba Cisse has returned to training, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Brian Madjo are ineligible for European competition. Emery expressed hope that Madjo could rejoin the group by Saturday.

Villa currently sit 16th in the Premier League table after six matches and will be looking to build momentum in Europe against the Turkish side.
