Thierno Barry's instinctive 11th-minute finish gave Everton a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, extending the club's unbeaten run to seven matches at the start of the season.

Barry claimed his fifth goal of the campaign when he got on the end of James Tarkowski's 20-yard drive, flicking the ball into the bottom right-hand corner with his midriff.

The striker was denied a second goal shortly before the hour mark after nodding in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's corner. VAR intervened, with referee Stuart Attwell ruling that Brennan Johnson had obstructed goalkeeper Christian Walton, despite Barry's header curling in via the left-hand post.

Ipswich created chances to level through Abdul Fatawu, Julio Enciso and Leif Davis, with Jordan Pickford tipping away Fatawu's fierce angled drive to keep the scoreline intact. The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 67 minutes when Fatawu received a second yellow card for diving while competing with James Garner.

Everton were made to work hard in seven minutes of added time, with Jarrad Branthwaite producing a crucial block to deny Issa Diop's low drive and secure the three points.

Manager David Moyes introduced Tyler Dibling as a substitute, three days after the player's man-of-the-match display against Wolves. Everton head into the international break unbeaten and in a strong position in the table.
