Aston Villa secured their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendía all scored as Villa raced into a three-goal lead, before holding on to survive a late Spurs comeback.

Manager Unai Emery praised his side's execution of the gameplan and their collective defensive resilience, particularly during a demanding first half.

"We are delighted (with) how the players responded on the field (with) the gameplan we planned," Emery told VillaTV. "We competed fantastic. We were defending collectively strong the first half. We needed the 'keeper, we needed (to) defend a lot of corners defensively and we were resilient."

Emery highlighted the contributions of summer signings, with two of the three goals scored by new arrivals and over half of the starting XI consisting of recent recruits.

"We must adapt the new players, and we need to try to create and to build our structure, feeling comfortable each one, getting confident, and today is really fantastic how we did," the Spaniard added.

Villa's victory follows a mixed start to the campaign that included a defeat to Nottingham Forest and wins over Bruges and in the EFL Cup at Coventry. Emery's squad now faces an international break before returning to action against Brentford in three weeks.
