Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised the "value" of Saturday's 4-3 Premier League victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge, while confirming Moises Caicedo will be assessed after the midfielder was forced off with an injury in the second half.

Romeo Lavia opened the scoring with his first Chelsea goal before Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro extended the lead to 3-0 inside 32 minutes. Brighton fought back through Malick Yalcouye and a Joao Pedro own goal to make it 3-2.

Cole Palmer restored Chelsea's two-goal cushion with a curled effort from 20 yards, and that proved decisive despite a late consolation from Pascal Gross.

"All the wins I enjoy a lot, but it was a game that in different moments had different feelings," Alonso said in his post-match press conference. "In the end, we're happy with the result. We value this win against a very good opponent who have been tough in the last few years. We are happy with that, and there are things and moments that we have done well, but it's a process to keep on learning and improving. Usually, that is easier with a win."

The result gives Chelsea two wins from two Premier League fixtures at the start of the campaign, though the afternoon was soured by Caicedo's setback. The Ecuadorian midfielder had only just returned from missing the opening two matches of the season when he was substituted on from the bench midway through the second half.

Caicedo lasted just 13 minutes before being replaced by Valentin Barco. "He was cautious to stop and say his feeling wasn't the best," Alonso said. "We need to assess during the week, but it wasn't something new."
